At Calvary Chapel Newberg, we believe that worship is very important. We consider worship to be "musical prayers to God." Because of that, most of the songs we sing are directed right at the Lord, like a prayer set to music. Worship isn't the prelude to the sermon either.
In the Old Testament, the children of Israel would bring daily sacrifices to God in the form of animals or grain. The New Testament also has sacrifices, but to praise God for what He has already done. The Bible tells us to bring a sacrifice of praise to God, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to Him (Hebrews 13:15).
We "enter into His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise" (Psalm 100:4). Entering into God's presence is part of what worship is all about. The Word tells us "draw near to God and He will draw near to you" (James 4:8). We expect God to move in our hearts as we offer up our songs to Him. More than just our mouths making music, worship is the song of our hearts, lifting up our love and gratitude for His wonderful love (Ephesians 5:19).
We hope you can learn the worshp songs we sing by watching the videos we've provided. These are from the artists that wrote the songs, but it gives you a good idea of how we do them.
Here are YouTube videos of the songs we sing at Calvary Chapel Newberg. They are meant to help you become familiar with the songs.
