2008-11-18 Report from Juliana

Written by Administrator.

"Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Always give yourselves fully to
the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in
vain." -- 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NIV)

We're making progress on the language survey reports I mentioned in my
August update - thank you for praying. I've sent three reports on to our
Dallas office for final copy editing and formatting. For the other six
reports, I've e-mailed files with my comments and questions back to the
Indian surveyors who wrote them. Please pray that the surveyors would find
time to read and respond, and that my feedback would be clear to them.

The Oregon Summer Institute of Linguistics (ORSIL) program has merged with
the year-round Canada Institute of Linguistics. In September, I finished my
role as ORSIL Registrar and transferred the database and related files to
the school director. I have accepted an invitation to work with South Asian
survey colleagues full-time again. I'll do this via e-mail from my "home
office" here in southern Oregon. I'm excited about this opportunity! In
preparation for this change of assignment, I am seeking additional prayer
and financial partners. At this writing, my remaining support need is $330
per month.

** If you work for (or are retired from) a company with a corporate matching
gifts program, you may be able to double your financial contributions to my
ministry. (Wow!) Please check with your company to find out whether such a
program is available to you. If "Wycliffe Bible Translators" is not a
qualifying
organization for your company's program, please ask about "SIL
International" (Wycliffe's sister organization). And if you have any
questions,
please let me know!

When ongoing pledges meet my remaining financial support need, I will be
released to begin my new assignment. Together with my supervisor and the
surveyors in South Asia, I hope to keep the Internet humming with language
survey report traffic! And ultimately, our goal is to see Bible translation
projects started in languages that still do not have any Scripture.

I appreciate your partnership!

2008-03-05 Update From Juliana

Written by Administrator.

"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap
a harvest if we do not give up." -- Galatians 6:9 (NIV)

Praises:

* Language survey projects:
I'm thankful for progress in e-mail communications with co-workers, and in
report editing.

* Church contacts and sharing opportunities:
I have been invited to make presentations to two women's groups in April and
May. God has also led me to visit two nearby churches during the past four
weekends.

* Health:
I'm thankful for several physical therapy visits that have provided me with
ideas and practice times for modified pool and "dry land" exercises. They
must be helping, because people are commenting on the continued improvement
in my walking. :)

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord,
not for men, since you know you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as
a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving." -- Colossians 3:23-24
(NIV)

Prayer requests:

* Provision:
For additional ongoing financial partners. (In the meantime, I'm thankful
for the one-time gifts that continue to help meet my monthly needs.)

* Wisdom, strength, and focus:
For me as I do a final read-through of the "RJS" report and then send it on
to Bonnie, copy editor in our Dallas office.
For Bonnie as she reviews this draft and corresponds with me about the next
steps in preparing it for publication on the Internet.

* Follow-through:
In completing my "initial" editing of seven other survey reports by March
29; some of these are about languages and dialects related to "RJS." I'm
feeling a need to grow in confidence, skill, and comfort with "juggling"
this many projects - my fervent desire is to gain greater ability to "settle
down" and focus on one project at a time, while also "coordinating" my
feedback on the related projects.

Wishing you deepened peace and renewed hope as we celebrate Easter -
Jules (Juliana)

2008-01-27 Update From Juliana

Written by Administrator.

I read the following in "Our Daily Bread" (January 25 entry):

"Scientists in the UK have calculated that the most depressing day of the
year occurs in the third week of January. Winter days are dark and cold,
holiday excitement has worn off just as Christmas debts are coming due, and
New Year's resolutions have all been broken."

Hmmm. Somehow that struck a bit of a chord for me, not so much in the
specific details (well, except for the cold days!) as in the general tone .
. . As we approach the end of January, I must confess that I have been a bit
discouraged about feeling "stalled" in certain areas. (Does that make sense
to you? I hope so.) Although my projects are certainly not on the same scale
as rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem, I have been encouraged in the midst of
this by the example of Nehemiah and the Israelites: "The work is extensive
and spread out, and we are widely separated from each other along the wall.
Wherever you hear the sound of the trumpet, join us there. Our God will
fight for us!" (Nehemiah 4:19b, NIV)

Would you please "sound the trumpet," so to speak, for me in the following
areas? (I know that as God guides me through these, He will indeed fight for
me. But I desire and need discernment, motivation, and "momentum" to work as
He guides.)

--> Language survey projects: I'm waiting to hear back from co-workers (who
are currently busy with meetings) about how to proceed with the reports I
have started editing.

--> Church contacts and sharing opportunities: I'm preparing to be part of
my home church's "Great Commission Festival" February 8 to 10, and I need to
follow up about possibly sharing at some other churches as well.

--> Cleaning out and reorganizing: I'm feeling the need to do this more
thoroughly . . . e-mails, computer and paper files, and other stuff around
the apartment (much of it neatly tucked into drawers or stacked on shelves,
mostly out of sight but no longer out of mind).

At the same time, please include some "praise notes" in your "trumpeting":

--> Health: God is giving abundant grace, day by day, to persevere with my
modified lifestyle program. A physical therapy follow-up appointment is
scheduled for Monday, January 28 to re-evaluate my walking ability, which
continues to improve, and possibly modify my strengthening and stretching
exercises.

--> Awanas (children's program): Sometimes I wonder how much effect I
can have serving as a "listener/helper." I was reminded the other night when
I worked with a girl who persevered through reciting a set of three Bible
verses from memory, and finally got them all correct. As she headed out the
door, she turned around and said, "It was good having you here, Juliana."
What a precious and timely gift - thank you, Lord!

--> Women's Bible Study: We've started a study on "The Names
of God," which is challenging but rewarding. I really appreciate the
fellowship of the small group I'm part of - I'm learning a lot from the
varied life experiences of these ladies!

Thank you for your prayers. And if I haven't been clear (sorry, I tried!),
please do let me know if you have questions. Just getting this e-mail update
written and sent feels like a breakthrough!

In His grace,
Jules (Juliana)
